With Abbott on his way, we decided it would be a great idea to combine Aathan’s one-year photos with some pregnancy photos of Stacy, too!

I don't consider myself to be a person of many words, so I'm really banking on the old adage of a photo being worth a thousand of them...
Take a look around and let me know what you think!

March 10, 2010 - 1:55 pm - Love the shot of them walking away and your focus on the little guy. Good work!
I hold these two up on a pedestal as they’re in a distance relationship. It really can be so tough, especially trying to finish up school, but I imagine they’ve found the old adage to hold true: Distance makes the heart grow fonder. In just a few short months, they’ll be married and done with distance living!

March 10, 2010 - 1:40 pm - wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow
The Scottish Rite was so kind to allow Lezlee, Paul and I to come back for a couple’s session after the wedding. It is such a gorgeous indoor location; every turn holds possibilities for 12 new shots… Here are just a few teasers from our time there:

March 8, 2010 - 11:15 am - wow jackie just gorgeous!!
One of our stops was in Georgetown, Texas, to visit Uncle Steve’s clan. I was so flattered when I was asked to take some senior photos for Caleb, especially since Uncle Steve is a great photographer himself!

March 5, 2010 - 6:49 am - What a great smile! Love the guitar pics!
March 8, 2010 - 11:24 am - that guitar picture is GREAT!!
Kristen and I have been friends since jump rope club in 3rd grade. She lives and teaches English in Mexico now, and – as it’s her third year there – Casey and I decided it was finally time to visit. Her fiance, David, also teaches English in Parral. I was stoked when they let me take a few engagement photos for them…in Mexico!

March 3, 2010 - 3:14 pm - They are adorable! Great shots, you captured them so well. Fun & In Love.
March 5, 2010 - 6:56 am - Very nice job w/ the lighting on Kristen's pic! Nice backgrounds, too!
You may remember the Lenhart family from November. They’re in the process of raising support to be missionaries in Haiti. In November, they were also in the process of adopting two boys from Haiti. With the tragedy of the recent earthquake, the adoption process was expedited, and Jackson and Dieudonne are officially in the Lenhart family! So, as we were passing through OKC, we rounded up this family of seven just to get a few snapshots of everyone together…
Here’s an excerpt of a note Tiffanie posted to Facebook on Feb. 4, 2010:
“When we landed in Miami and were moments away from being reunited with our precious children, I walked by a TV monitor reporting the biggest aftershock yet. But again as I had done all week, I had to CHOOSE faith. Earlier in the week, I heard and held onto a MLK quote that said “faith is taking the first step, even when you don’t see the staircase.”
“So pushing the news of the aftershock aside, I was finally able to wrap my arms around my friend Belinda (who had just walked through the valley of the shadow of death literally) and my precious boys!!! Knowing their ages (12,11) and developmentally where my son was at age, I didn’t want to smoother them with hugs and kisses so I had determined not to but…. As soon as they saw me, THEY SMOTHERED me when the hugs and kisses my heart so desperately longed for the last several months since I last saw them. It was one of those moments that can’t be explained with words or pictures but it is completely a heart thing. So after our 5:30am reunion in the Miami international airport hotel, we began the task of making travel arrangements to OklaHOMEa.
“[...] One of the biggest questions we have been asked is “are you still moving to Haiti?” And the answer is a resounding “YES!”. The earthquake has changed many things… and the details of WHEN and in what capacity we will serve is still unknown. When we embarked on this journey to become full time missionaries to Haiti, we were really unsure how God was going to work out the logistics of everything. God knew there would be a devastating earthquake when He called us. It was like a Polaroid picture… I knew God had a plan but the final picture was really unclear and blurry yet. Today that Polaroid picture is starting to become clearer and IT’S BEAUTIFUL! Figuring out how the picture ends up and knowing all the details along the way, isn’t my part. My part is just following Him wherever He leads. One day that will be Haiti, but while we wait I have a little more of Haiti (in Jackson and Dieudonne) here with me to love on.”

March 3, 2010 - 9:57 pm - LOVE THESE Jackie!!! Just looking at them makes me feel overwhelmingly blessed and makes my heart smile :)I would not have wanted anyone else to capture our FIRST COMPLETE family picture You are such a blessing
March 5, 2010 - 7:07 am - These are great! Love the hands! A 20x20 stand-out of that would be awesome! Nice location, too. The sofa shot - sweet! Way to shoot!
March 8, 2010 - 11:28 am - tears and more tears! what an exceptional story and an amazing moment for this family. it reminds me of sandra bullock's testimony last night at the oscars when she gave thanks "the momma's who didn't have to be momma's". here's to the men and women who choose to multiply their family and make room in their heart and lives for more of God's children. :)
This part two post will showcase some of the vacation parts of our trip with (very) brief descriptions. I shot three portrait sessions on vacation, so those teasers will come in my third and final blog about our trip. So stay tuned!
I’ll start with this self-timer shot of Casey and I on the River Walk in San Antonio.

After getting photos with Benita (see below), we continued on to Dallas to stay with Casey’s grandparents. We (okay, mostly Casey) tore off and re-shingled a section of their roof that was leaking.

Casey was such a good sport to pull over so we could play around with the beautiful, golden evening light!

Traditional Texas BBQ

Yep. We’re in Texas.

And here’s our Mexico destination – Hidalgo del Parral!

Our friends Kristen and David in their element – teaching at Instituto Las Americas…

Back in Texas – at one of the numerous exotics ranches…

And, I’ll end with a couple from San Antonio….

For this last one, I was inspired by the oils and watercolors of the local artists…

March 2, 2010 - 9:04 pm - Sweet pictures! Can I borrow your camera for AZ?! :) Meet me in Dallas on the 9th!
March 2, 2010 - 9:07 pm - ps - we'd like a copy of the San Antonio self timer shot! & I really like the one of Grandma!
March 3, 2010 - 3:12 pm - Nice bokeh in the one of Casey! I love the view of the Mexican city. :)
Casey and I just returned from a two-week road trip visiting friends and family in Oklahoma, Texas and Mexico. So, since we were passing through OKC, I decided to contact Benita of BRC Photography to see about doing a couple’s photo session on our way through. I will say it was really different being on the other side of the camera, and I can now safely say that I’m way more unnatural than all of the people I’ve photographed so far! Benita was a saint to work with us. I’m excited, too, for a one-on-one workshop I’m doing with her later this month. One of my photography goals this year is to learn from a photographer whose work I admire, so I’m very excited for this opportunity!
Check out her blog post from our session. Thanks, Benita!

March 2, 2010 - 5:28 pm - Oh yay! I am so glad you guys came and stopped down here. I don't know what you're talking about girl - the both of you were wonderful to work with!! Can't wait to see ya again for our 101! :) So glad you had a fun trip!! xox
March 3, 2010 - 7:29 pm - Jackie - Thanks for your sweet comment on our blog and for the referrals! :) Loved seeing photos of you and Casey. It is SO important for photogs to remember to have their own lives documented!
I was more than impressed with how collected and secure Jill and Brett were on their wedding day. I mean, in general, brides and grooms tend to at least have one moment of stress or nervousness. These two thought through all aspects of their day, examining traditions for their significance and incorporating new ideas to really bring out who they are as a couple. For example, neither of them are terribly fond of cake, but they both love cheesecake. So – why not have cheesecake at the reception? And…I’m not sure there’s been such a beautiful day in February in all of Kansas history! You better believe we capitalized on that with some fun outdoor shots…
I had the privilege of working with Sarah Shah yet again. She has got to be one of the best children’s photographers I can think of, and that’s an area I’ll be the first to say I’m not that gifted in. So…to those of you at the wedding asking about children’s and maternity photography – check her out!

Okay – check out this backdrop for the details. It’s a scarf with one of their engagement photos! To say I loved it would be an understatement. Brett’s crafty aunt made not only the scarf for Jill as a shower gift but also the shirt she wore in the morning. On the back it reads, “Two-n2-One” with the wedding date under it. Way cool.

LOVE the first look.

The fabulous Jill…

And while I was working on this…

Sarah was busy crafting this great image!

This next one is another of Sarah’s. I love having a different perspective on the wedding!

Props, again to Sarah for this next image…

Congratulations, Jill and Brett! Have a fabulous time in Cozumel!
